NEWARK, NJ (September 24, 2014) – Faith Church (Indianapolis, IN), a 50-year old nondenominational congregation with evangelical ties, recently made its first purchase of a professional video camcorder, Panasonic’s AJ-PX270 P2 HD handheld.
Having used the PX270 for only two months, the church is already expanding its video mandate to include live feeds to overflow crowds, as well as recording sermons and shooting promotional materials and sermon openers. The PX270 is also being utilized to document baptisms and baby dedications for congregation members.
Video promos touting upcoming events are placed on the church’s web site (www.faithliveitout.org) and are also shown on two permanent screens in the sanctuary during the two weekly Sunday worship services. Pastors’ sermons are likewise placed on the web site for residual viewing.
“We chose the PX270 based on its versatility,” said Brittany Christian, A/V Production Engineer. “The camcorder’s 22x zoom lens affords us the flexibility of shooting long distance from a fixed position in the back of the sanctuary, as we do during Sunday services, or shooting shorter range for our promotional videos.”
“The PX270’s sophisticated image handling, such as its seven-mode gamma selection, gives us a lot of color correction options,” she continued. “This is especially valuable given the varying lighting conditions in the sanctuary, which can range from full bright, to stage lights with colors, to Christmas Eve services where the only illumination is candlelight.”
“We like the two, separated XLR audio inputs,” Christian noted. “During Sunday services, we’re using a shotgun mic on the front, and taking a line in from an audio console on the rear. When shooting promos, we also have the option to connect a wireless mic.”
While Christian often operates the PX270, she also employs volunteer shooters who, she said, quickly grasped camera operations. She typically shoots AVC-Intra100/720p and edits in Adobe Premiere.
